The City of Calgary, Alberta, has created the 'Made in Calgary Solutions' program to incentivize the conversion of office towers into residences. The Downtown Development Incentive Program, the first of its kind in Canada, provides grants of $75 per square foot (up to $15M) for the converted space, waives the need for a development permit, and expedites the approval process. This program is designed to support revitalization of the downtown core and address the glut in office vacancies and the housing crunch.
